>> Sensor Networking for Medical
Client
The client is a provider of niche solutions in the medical technology field, whose products and services benefit a vast community of people. The client’s products span the entire spectrum of healthcare and their businesses are spread across the globe.
Client’s Business Requirement
The client wanted their medical applications to benefit from standards-based wireless technology that is reliable, secure, and runs on low power. Though there are other wireless standards that allow high transmission rates, the clients chose ZigBee due to its low power consumption capability, simplicity of applications, and low cost. Hence the clients outsourced the development of a ZigBee network prototype based on the Airbee-ZNS stack. This prototype will perform network data transfer with optimal power save options.
Airbee’s Solution
Airbee developed a robust 4-node wireless sensor network utilizing an optimal power save option. The star network topology was chosen as it provides long battery life. The application comprises three end devices and a Full function device (FFD) that performs the role of a coordinator.

The individual devices do not communicate with each other and communicate only with the FFD. They send data packets to the FFD through a RF transmitter system. Device 1 and Device 2 can only send data to FFD and not receive data from FFD, whereas Device 3 can send and receive data from FFD. Data transmission from Device 2 is based on a timer event (every five minutes) and data is transmitted from other devices on the press of a key.
Features
· Low power mode for optimizing power consumption. This was achieved by maximizing the sleep time of the devices.
· Ability to vary the payload size of data transmission.
· Data transfer is event/timer based.
