Headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, Airbee is a developer and licensor of embedded wireless connectivity software that enables consumer and business devices to connect to each other over short distances without requiring cables or wires. All products are designed and engineered to comply with ZigBee/802.15.4 PAN Standards. The Company maintains research and development centers in Chennai, India.
Airbee was founded in early 2002, during the midst of a US recession and at a time when many technology companies in the Washington, DC metro area were vanishing. Like most companies at the time venture capital was unavailable, and Airbee experienced the financial challenges common to many companies. People who could visualize wireless connectivity solutions furiously worked days, nights and weekends, while curbing their anxiety over the future.
The first prototype product was delivered ahead of schedule and under budget. One month after that the second product prototype was delivered and was also ahead of schedule and under budget. An overseas acquisition was made to reinforce the technology platform and intellectual capital. Members of the Airbee team were marketing people who sold product licenses. They were company liaisons that briefed and built relationships with customers who were convinced of the Airbee solution.
